I’m in a service business, so should I consider being in the information marketing business?
An information product is a fantastic way to get prospects on your radar to business with on a less committed level before they hire you for more expensive services. So let’s say you are a financial planner that likes to work with people that are just starting retirement – why not have a product that teaches retirees what investments are best for them at age 62, and how to preserve their principle and live off the interest?
Now, you might think, “Bob, if I tell people how to do this, they won’t need to hire me. They’ll take my “secrets” and cut me out”.
First of all, people might never find you otherwise if they didn’t search for you online and find your product site. Secondly, people that want to do it themselves are fewer and far in between. People MAY want to think they can do it themselves, but they know in the long run they’ll screw it up and need to hire you anyway. Thirdly, creating a product positions you as an expert, especially if your competition DOESN’T have a product. Given a choice of 3 people in your town, if you are the only planner with a product, who do you think they’ll do business with?
So if you run a service business, make it a point to get a product off the ground. If you need help, we’re here. I suggest you help us to help you Research Your Market and discover exactly the type of product to create by knowing EXACTLY what people want.
Bob.
