Ever have one of those days?

I’ve decided to do a bit more writing lately, and instead of just putting stuff down on paper, I might as well share it with the world.  It’s good therapy.

Today was one of those days where things, you name it, goes wrong.  Storms in the morning, meaning my wife and I will have a 7 and 5 year old in the bed.  It goes like this - lightning -> thunder -> footsteps -> visitor -> no more room in bed.

Having a nasty chest cold on top of lack of rest tends to get to you as well.  Since the storms rolled in around 5:30am, there was still sleep to be had.  So when I finally managed to fall asleep in my sliver of space, I didn’t open my eyes till 8:45am, and that means my day has now started late - with calls coming in and projects due, I didn’t need that.

After getting a protein shake in my belly and sleep from my eyes, I rolled in to find my Internet connection going in and out.  This is a problem because my work line is a VOIP connection, meaning if my Internet is down, I can’t do phone calls, and I can’t work.

My 10:30am call never showed up.  Then my 1:30 did not show up.  Several calls with my team and business partners got disrupted because of my Internet connection, and I got literally one thing off my To Do list for the day through 2pm.

This doesn’t account for some silly mistakes we made on client setups, and missed opportunities that I won’t get into to protect the innocent.

Therefore, at 2pm, I called it.  The day - over.  Sometimes, you need to know when to waive the white flag.  When things appear to be going to hell in a handbasket, it’s better to stop doing more things for fear of those going wrong.  So I took a 2 hour nap in the middle of the day.  That’s not normal for me.

I’m sure it was the lack of rest and the cold, but I still feel guilty I got nothing done today.  So I’ll work a few hours tonight while everyone sleeps and feel better when my head hits the pillow.

To quote a famous character, Chicken Little - "Tomorrow is a new day!".  You probably thought I was going to say "The sky is falling".  Ah-ha.  Got you. I’m not that down.

Go get some work done…Bob
