"If You Know Visitors Are Coming Over You'd Better Clean Up Your House!"
What do you do when company comes over? Well, let me tell you what we do around here. We get into a mode I like to call "scramble and clean mode". We start from one end of the house and work our way to the other. What we do is we clean the house. We dust, we vacuum, we scrub, we polish; everything that you would typically do to put on a nice face for your company. The reason we do that is we want to make a positive impact on our visitors. No one wants to look at an unkept house or sit in a chair that has crumbs on it. No one wants to look at lampshades with cobwebs on them or see a bunch of crumbs and dirt on the floor. When you have visitors coming over, you clean up your house.
Now, the running joke around our house is that when we really need to get the house clean we need to call up one of our friends and get them to come over because we know we are going to get the house clean. So, if the house gets too dirty we need to call somebody up and invite him or her over because we know it's going to force us to clean up our house.
What does that have to do with websites? What does that have to do with the Internet? Well, let me tell you. If you know you are having visitors coming to your website you would be sure to clean it up and get it ready for them. Nobody wants to visit a website that is disorganized, loud, confusing, and unappealing.
As a professional, you don't want your website to scream, "I'm an amateur website! I was built by somebody who didn't know what they are doing". You wouldn't invite people over to an office that was a mess. You make it clean, functional, inviting, and productive. Why not the same attention toward your website? Don't you want your website to be an inviting place for your visitors to spend time at? If they get to your site and they are confused or they're turned off, they are going to leave. You have at most 4 to 8 seconds to capture your visitor's attention and to convince them to stay.
My series of articles are going to give you a lot of ways in which you could capture your visitor's attention right away and present them a website that is neat, clean and an extremely efficient machine at turning visitors into new business. Things we are going to talk about are: headlines, name capture, audio, video, images, USP, testimonials, contact information, phone numbers, colors, and navigation (a whole slew of different things you may have never given a second thought to!)
I will also teach you about ways you can promote your website, because after all, if you are going to spend the time to clean up your house, why not invite some people to visit?
My goal is to help you generate new business and more business from your website. That's it. I do not care how about how pretty your website is, how flashy your website is, or how much you pay for your website. If it is not generating new business for you it is not a good website.
You are in business to generate new business and profits. I want your website to help you make more money, and that is the bottom line.
